As long as you are not from Chicago, chances are when someone says “pizza” you think of a beautiful thin crust, marinara, and mozzarella masterpiece. A big heavenly slice from a New York “pie,” as they are want to call them up north. South Florida, especially Boca Raton, is often referred to by New Yorkers as “the sixth borough” (for the uninitiated, it’s one after the five boroughs of New York City: Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens, and Staten Island). We’re not saying that every Boca Raton pizzeria will have the most authentic slice, but you certainly stand a better chance of finding New York pizza in Boca than Dubuque! Below are our top picks for where the line between Boca Raton pizza and New York pizza begins to blur.

Manhattan Joe’s Pizzeria

  • 1901 NW 2nd Avenue
  • Boca Raton, FL 33432
  • (561) 931-2959

Serving three locations in Palm Beach County, Manhattan’s Joe’s East Boca location will be the closest for those in Boca proper. With slices with the right amount of oil, giant pizza ovens, and a happy clientele of former New Yorkers, you know you’re in the right spot for an authentic slice of New York pizza in Boca!

TOMASSO’S PIZZA & SUBS

Casual, clean, and family-owned, Tomasso’s has been the go-to for the Florida Atlantic University student body for decades. As far as Boca Raton pizza is concerned, it’s a great value. The pies are inventive and especially generous. The only thing we wished was different were their hours, as they close every night at 9:00 pm, except for 10:00 pm on Fridays.

Pizza Time Ristorante

  • 1001 SW 2nd Ave Ste 7000
  • Boca Raton, FL 33432
  • (561) 391-9240

You’ll find this quiet restaurant tucked away in one of the many strip malls that dot the landscape of South Florida. Pizza Time is located in Coral Springs, just a quick drive from Boca Raton. The crust is a little bit thicker and bigger than Manhattan Joe’s recipe, but if you enjoy a couple of extra bites with your slice this is the Boca-New York pizza for you! With 33 varieties of pizza, this is the spot to take the picky-eaters in your family.

Nick’s Pizza

Not exactly a Boca Raton pizzeria, but Deerfield Beach is an easy 10-minute drive down Federal Highway. If you want the true New York experience, you could take the bus for 30. Just kidding. Nick’s Pizza is renown for its New York pizza. Its patrons will remind you to drop the “-style” from the “New York,” as this is the real deal. Their pizza has the perfect-sized crust, just the right amount to get a handle on and fold, should you be so inclined, and the slices are enormous. There’s a small dining room for those who want more than simple take-out.
